We stayed at Bull Elk Lodge this summer and LOVED it! It is so close to the entrance to Yellowstone and in a great area. There is rafting, fishing, and swimming close by. The house is gorgeous and well equipped. We had two families meet from opposite sides of the country with several kids and there was ample room (one whole bedroom went unused). Bill is a great host with a very clean and beautiful place. If we go to Yellowstone again, I imagine we will stay here again as well. Thanks for a memorable vacation!
We had the best time at the Brook Trout Inn! The accomodations were beyond what we thought, very clean and every amenity you could think of from the kitchen, to the bath and bedrooms. Only suggestion when visiting in the spring, check the dates for when Yellowstone Park is open - we missed it by 2 days, but it did not ruin our visit, the snowmobiling was great (gas available on site) and the foosball table got a work out! We are already planning a trip back!
We stayed here 5 nights and loved this lodge. Plenty of room for 8 adults and 2 children, with beds left over. Fully stocked with all the basics, all we brought was food and drinks. Close to the West Yellowstone entrance, it was a great place to begin our sightseeing each day. Bill was a gracious host, and worked very hard to get the wireless internet going for us and making sure everything was perfect for our stay.
Our family rented Bull Elk Lodge and Brooktrout Inn a few weeks ago. Bill is an amazing host and we found both properties to be clean, neat and nicely stocked for our needs. Both lodgings are located just outside of town which is a nice place to head for some quiet and beautiful scenery after a day of touring. Bill recommended some horseback riding that was amazing. We all said that we would return to this area in a minute and would definitely come back to the Bull Elk or Brook Trout Inn. You won't be disappointed if you choose this jewel in West Yellowstone!
I brought my daughter and 2 friends for a week at the Bull Elk Lodge, it was perfect! Only minutes from downtown West Yellowstone and the park. The home was very clean had everything that we needed to cook and have a great time. The outside deck was great for BBQ, and star watching at nights. Bill was very friendly and was available at all times if we had any questions. My daughter got to go horseback riding a block away from the property. One of best part of our vacation was Bill's friend Cory, who rents ATV's. He delivered 4 ATV's right to the Bull Elk Lodge for 4 days of riding. You can explore Two Top mountain and Lions Head right from the property. We even took the trails from the mountains right into West Yellowstone to have breakfast or lunch on the ATV's. The trails were endless, and Cory provided us with detailed maps of the mountain trails and the area around Bull Elk Lodge. Fishing, exploring, horseback riding,ATV,star gazing are just a few of many things to do. We are already planing for a return vacation. Thanks Bill and Cory!!
We stayed at the Brooktrout Inn in May 2011. The cabin was beautiful and though the weather was cold the cabin was very comfortable and relaxing. The bedrooms are very comfortable and large enough to not feel crowded. The dining area was quite large and the kitchen had great amenities. The entrance to West Yellowstone was easy to find and after long days of wildlife viewing the cabin was a welcome respite. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and so did our 2 small dogs who enjoyed the spaciousness of the home. A special thanks to the owner for his hospitality.
Our family stayed at Brooktout in June 2011. The group included twelve adults, two teens and two toddlers and one dog. The basement (not shown in photos or layout diagram) has three bedrooms and two baths. The total of four bathrooms was great for our big group. Bill was a very hospitible host. The house was clean and well-stocked with cookware, towels, linens and eating utensils. The entrance to Yellowstone park is about ten minutes away. We used the WIFI to access the internet every day with no issues. I would highly recommend Brooktrout to anyone with a large group. Our ages ranged from <1 to >70.
A clean and totally updated real cabin with a wonderful deck and surroundings. The view of Lion's Head was beautiful. We loved sitting and sipping our morning coffee out on the deck after a good night's sleep on what looked and felt like a new mattress! Can't beat this kind of home-like feeling. When we wanted, we had a full kitchen to cook and even an outside grill was provided. The woodworking done by the owner Bill, is truly beautiful and unique. He has many talents including a wonderful knowledge of the surrounding area, lots of stories and even loans out his "stuff". We had a great day trip out to Wade and Cliff Lakes with a picnic lunch made possible by Bill's consideration and desire to help us out with one of his coolers for our picnic lunch and drinks. Above and beyond, really! All dishes, silverware, pots & pans, towels, paper products, even tin foil (!) is provided by the owner so we just needed to buy our food. I decided to write this review because of the one I saw by DAA from Aledo, IL who claimed that the roof of this cabin was falling in and covered in weeds! Since we had been there just three months before and found such a clean, well-furnished place that was NOT at all as DAA described, I wonder if they are confused about where they actually stayed In any case, this place is really a wonderful little cabin and we would love to come back and stay there again soon. Thanks again Bill for the wonderful, warm-hearted attention you showed us during our stay. May see you again next summer. The "Washington Bunch".
We have been going to West Yellowstone in Feb. for the last 4 years. We have been staying at the Brook Trout for the last 3 and wouldn't think of staying any where else. The house is HUGE and setup perfectly - the pictures online don't accurately reprent it. The entire basement has been re done and there are 3 bedrooms and two baths downstairs. There is radiant heating in the tiled floors. The owner is fantastic - one year he bought our kids sleds because we left ours at home. I would recommend staying at this house to anyone.
Close to West Yellowstone entrance and it's an easy drive. Cabin had everything you need: washer/dryer, frig, stove, dish washer. Nicely finished inside with plenty of roome for 4 adults. Has a deck off the back, and a bababling brook running through. For sure the owner takes your comfort as a number one issue. Front window view it at forest leading up to snow covered mountain. Bill was more than helpful and made you very comfortable. Property clean and maintained and descripted honestly in the listing
My family and I have been vacationing in West Yellowstone, MT for over 20 years and have had the pleasure now of staying at Bill’s beautiful homes. You’ll have to go to brooktroutinn.com to see them all. Yellowstone is God’s country. We have done a lot of traveling, however, it always feel like we are coming home. Stayed in the Kozy Cabin, Creekside, Brook Trout, & Bull Elk. All were stocked with amenities from the essential washer and dryer to cooking utensils and spices. Ages range from young children to our 92 year old Grandmother. We’ve rented snowmobiles, suits and ATV’s with Bill’s help. He’s truly made these properties feel comfortable and warm. Always well-maintained and the art work in some of the homes is just beautiful. Looking forward to this upcoming snowmobile season so we can stay in the new Bear’s Den. We’ve had other friends stay in the Trail’s End which is located right in the heart of town. Thanks again Bill. We’ll see you in a few months!
The pictures do not do this place justice! The Brook Trout home is large, comfortable, affordable and clean. We had a family of 12 and there was plenty of room as we reserved both levels of the house. The location is perfect for Yellowstone or any of the surrounding areas - very easy to access them all! There are several (unmarked) hiking trails just to the north of the house that are within very easy walking distance of the front door.....we hiked on them and saw bear tracks/scat and beautiful wildflowers. Bill was kind, easy to work with and a great resource for the area. I highly recommend Brook Trout Home for your summer OR winter vacation.
We booked the Brook Trout Inn a year ago while planning a family vacation to West Yellowstone. There was a combination of four siblings and their families ages 17-63 Due to different travel arrangements we had to change our dates. Bill was awesome to work with. He always responded promptly. The pictures really do not do the Inn justice. There are not pictures of the second level which included three additional bedrooms. Two with queen sized beds and one with two queen beds and an attached bathroom. There is also another bathroom in the second level and a small living room with a tv. ( great area for the young adults in the group to hang out) There is also a room that goes to the outside which we were able to keep additional food in and xc skis etc....We booked both levels as there was 14 of us. We had plenty of room. The house is extremely well stocked, in fact we actually brought too much. There is everything from new spices, roasting pans, crock pots and a rice steamer. There is Internet and satellite tv which was perfect to catch the football games that were on. The fooseball table was a big hit. There were plenty of towels, and a hair dryer. We had extremely cold temperatures and Bill was kind enough to get a couple of extension cords so that we could plug in our vehicles. I really can't say enough great things about the property. Bill also was able to tell us great places to go xc skiing and recommended a local guide company Back Country Adventures to take us into the park to Old Faithful. The location of the cabin is about 7 miles from town so we were able to have a very rural feel yet close enough to the store if we needed something. We loved it so much we booked again for next year. Thank you Bill for a great place for our family to stay and build some amazing memories.
I coordinated a very large family reunion in West Yellowstone last month (7/16). Due to the number of people I had, I actually reserved three of Bills properties (Kozy Cabin which is right next door, and Bull Elk which is a few blocks away) but the Brooktrout Inn was our "gathering place," and it was spectacular! As other reviewers said, the pictures don't do it justice. One thing I didn't think to take into consideration was parking, and this place had plenty. Bill was very accommodating and friendly. I could go on and on but will just say that if you are looking for a place to stay in West Yellowstone look no farther!
We loved our stay at the Brooktrout inn. It’s very close to the park. It was very roomy so if you have a lot of people and want to all stay together, it’s an excellent option. It has a large dining table and lots of amenities for cooking. We didn’t use the grill but there was one. We brought our own dvd’s so we watched a movie and loved playing foosball! It has comfortable sofas that recline!
We loved the location of the cabin, nestled in the trees. The open floor plan and fireplace offered room for all eleven of us to relax and visit. The grandkids loved playing foosball and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances and some cooking supplies. We enjoyed staying here and only wished we could stay longer.
